PASTORAL CARE
Maryjoy is first and foremost a community: a family where every individual is a name and not just a number or statistic. Students will find that they are supported not only by their class teachers during lessons but also by a cohesive staff team that puts the child at the center of all we do. Class teachers are often the most important link between home and school, especially in the early years, and together with the parents, we monitor progress and general well-being in addition to tracking performance .
We aim to recognise not only hard work and endeavours of students whilst at school, but also to celebrate students’ achievements outside and beyond the school gates.
We have high expectations in terms of effort, commitment, behaviour, uniform and appearance but all of this within a caring and supportive environment.
HOUSE SYSTEM
Maryjoy’s ‘House System’ encourages and fosters teamwork, participation and sportsmanship in all areas of school life. The sense of community within each of the houses encourages a feeling of identity and belonging.
The Houses at Maryjoy are Blue (Chui), Red (Simba), Yellow(Kifaru), and Green (Ndovu).
Once our students and staff enter the school, they will be assigned to a House. Family members will be in the same House group. Membership of the House enhances the student’s sense of identity and belonging and creates a spirit of friendly competition, collaboration and cooperation. This friendly rivalry is given ample opportunity to manifest itself in a wide range of inter-house events.
