Maryjoy School was founded in 1998 as a Nursery School, expanded to Primary in 2001 and Junior secondary school in 2023. Our educational program caters to all students.. Our specialized and individualized curriculum caters to students of all abilities, from students of determination to gifted and talented students.
The size of the school and the limited numbers ensure that a friendly atmosphere is maintained and that the children’s individual abilities and potential are fully appreciated.
In keeping with the school’s mottos the main objective of the school is to inspire and motivate children in both their academic achievements and their personal growth and character.
KINDERGATEN SCHOOL (NURSERY)
Foundation Stage (PP1 and PP2)
We understand the importance of providing a great start to a child’s education, igniting their passion for learning as they grow.
Maryjoy offers an academic but fun, stimulating and caring environment, ensuring your child’s safety, as they develop the confidence needed to take on new challenges. We recognise that each child is uniquely talented. Our goal is to encourage them to achieve their full potential across a wide range of activities, developing new talents as well as stretching the things that they are already good at.
In our Foundation Stage, dedicated teachers encourage and promote ‘active’ learning throughout all the areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage,celebrating each child’s achievements and preparing them for a smooth and happy transition into the Primary School.
The curriculum sets out what most children are expected to achieve by the end of the Foundation Stage. It is organised in seven areas of learning:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
Our experienced teachers encourage and extend each child’s natural curiosity and enthusiasm as they build their range of skills. Over the course of the day, your child will learn in groups, pairs and individually across an array of different activities as we discover their learning styles and preferences. Digital Technology is woven seamlessly into the lessons, ensuring that all children are confident interacting with technology as a learning tool.
PRIMARY SCHOOL
Primary (Grade 1-Grade 6)
As our children transition from Kindergarten Stage to the Primary School, we will introduce greater structure and formality to their school day.
Our Subject Specialists, as well as their Class Teacher, will stretch your childs thinking, developing their abilities to observe, question and engage in investigative work across all curriculum areas.
As your child learns to make decisions and seeks greater independence in their learning, we will continue to stretch the range of challenges that they are exposed to. They will be encouraged to explore key topics across the subject areas, building their depth of understanding. Our contextual teaching style will enable our students to connect their learning to the real world, making learning come alive and ensuring that the skills that they have gained are not forgotten in the months and years ahead.
Through a strong programme of Performing Arts, your child will continue to develop their imagination and express themselves confidently and creatively. We encourage all of our students to be involved in school performances, both individually and as part of a group. These provide your child with opportunities to build social skills and their confidence whilst learning to work collaboratively to deliver success but also emphasises our belief in the importance of the Performing Arts in celebrating and developing creativity.
Maryjoy Enrichment Programme is carefully designed to offer a wide range of choices including academic, creative and sporting options. We aim to ignite new passions as well as extending existing interests and building skills to support future success.
From Grade 1, there is extensive specialist teacher provision which is a unique feature of the curriculum construct. This includes specialist lessons in Music, Art, Design Technology, Computer Science and Languages. Specialist Maths and English provision is also made through class setting and intervention for those with learning challenges and those who are especially gifted in these areas.
SECONDARY SCHOOL
Junior Secondary (Year 7-Year 9)
Our students enter the secondary phase of Maryjoy equipped with excellent study skills and with the confidence to take ownership of their learning. Our curriculum provides an all-round education, combining academic excellence with a wealth of enrichment opportunities. It has been designed to develop independent learning, resilience and confidence and our belief is that it will provide our students with immediate advantages in gaining places in top universities and, later on, in the workplace.
Our Secondary programme of study is broad and balanced and though following closely the expectations of the National Curriculum , it adds a wider international dimension that extends learning beyond normal age-related expectations. As students move towards examination courses , they are fully supported as they make their choices and become more specialized in their fields of study. A full range of option courses are available to choose from with a specialist staff whose experience at delivery is second to none.
Alongside the academic programme, we offer a full Enrichment programme and students are encouraged to engage in a vast and wide range of options from sporting to the creative to the academic as well as activities that are more community-based. Designed to explore future careers as well as stretching natural talents, the secondary enrichment courses aim to inspire, challenge and engage and participation.
